ROSEDALE DRIVING YOUR PROFITS
“Beef cattle producers are capturing increasing returns from industry investment in genetic improvement, and the gains are growing at a faster and faster rate” said Dr. Rob Banks, Meat & Livestock Australia’s Manager for Genetics.  Rob added that the Beef Information Nucleus programs coupled with greater use by Stud Breeders of elite young sires was expected to drive the genetic engine faster, to deliver bigger and better dividends for producers’ R&D dollars.  “The fruits of genetics and genomics R&D are delivered to industry primarily through Breedplan, and one of the useful features of Breedplan is that it tracks genetic improvement over time”, he said.

He said that buying better genetics was also the easiest and most reliable way for commercial producers to improve their bottom line.  “Commercial producers should look to buy bulls from breeders who have a strong track record of using Breedplan and ideally, from herds that are making the most progress.  They are the ones that will have more bulls with higher $index values within their respective breeds”.

After 40 years of breeding and more than 20 years of performance recording, the 2 graphs below give us much satisfaction and encouragement to continue to lead from the front.

Domestic Index ($)

Export Index ($)

Rosedale has always had a commercial focus, breeding to improve the profit drivers to generate more profitable returns.  The development of the $index values allows us to measure (what other tool is available?) economic traits, and so the graphs above shows that we have been successfully selecting sires and breeding to improve the bottom line, according to the ever changing industry conditions.

At Rosedale, we maintain that our future is contingent upon the success and profitability of the commercial cattleman.  Our clients are one of our major assets. Your sustainability and profitability (kgs/per/hectare return) affects our profitability and sustainability, so you can be assured we will remain challenged.

We at Rosedale advocate that when choosing bulls you use both visual assessment and EBV’s.  Visual assessment is essential to assess the physical characteristics of the animal as well as structural soundness, health and temperament.  EBV’s are a tool that will help you make more “educated” decisions.

BEEF WEEK OPEN DAYS - 29th and 30th JULY.
Hope you can join us at either our Dubbo property "Murrumbidgerie" or our home at "Rosedale" Blayney for our Beef Week Open Days.  This year, for the first time, we are introducing and inviting you to "Murrumbidgerie" to give western cattlemen the opportunity to see Rosedale Charolais and Composite bulls (Charolais/Angus and Charolais/Shorthorn).

At "Murrumbidgerie" we run the bulk of our 500 commercial Angus and Shorthorn breders joined to our Charolais bulls to produce some fine F1 calves, many of which have had great success over the years in the ANFD Feedlot trials, winning major awards for weight gain, yield and carcase.  We also retain the very best of these calves to be kept as bulls for our Composite programme.

Make Thursday 29th July your day out in Dubbo and join us for a BBQ and refreshments, and find out how to maximize your returns crossbreeding with Charolais.  On display we will have a selection of polled Charolais and Composite bulls, available for sale.

"Rosedale", the home of the Stud, will be open on Friday, 30th July.  Here we will have on display and for sale polled Charolais and Composite bulls, and access to view the walking Stud Sires and the long time developed genetic base, the Stud female herd.  As always we look forward to your visit and share a BBQ and refreshments, including the infamous "sale soup" with us and discuss your ideas.

 21ST ANNUAL SALE

Our 21 Annual Sale was a celebration of breeding Charolais for 40 years across 3 generations of Millners, and the result vindicates our ongoing dedication and leadership.  Seasonally, it has been one of our better at this time of year, which helped our south and western area clients.

Rosedale Egan(P/S), Lot 66 was the sale topper at $13,000, a 12month old by our new stud sire Ashwood Park Bacardi(P) out of a top Trapper daughter, purchasd by Greg Maguire, Powerhouse Pastoral Co.  Rosedale Dealer(P), Lot 7, was second top going to Sandy Munro of Weebollabolla Shorthorns for $10,000. Repeat and volume buyers included Berrico Pastoral Co, taking home 7 bulls for an average $5071, Kalite Pastoral 3 bulls to average $3333 and Serriston Pastoral Co buying 3 for a $5833 average.

Rosedale Egan(P)
In the Composite bull offering the black Charolais/Angus bulls attracted attention. The top priced bull was purchased by HW,LJ & BH Shore for $5250 while Hilton Pastoral Co purchased 6 bulls for an average of $3417.  The Shorthorn/Charolais bulls topped at $5,500 twice and both secured by Branga Plains Pastoral Co, repeat and volume buyers who took home 6 bulls for a $4541 average.
The female offering was strong, selling all but 1 lot, and going into good stud homes. $8,000 purchased Rosedale Kristina A67(P) with a polled P. Novotel(P) bull calf at foot and PTIC to Novotel for Bindoon Partnership.  Jackson Charolais purchased Rosedale Beatrix A128(P), a Trapper grand-daughter with a polled heifer calf at foot by P.Novotel and PTIC to the Champion bull, Rosesdale Donatello(P) for $5,500. D & H Wiggs from Victoria purchased 5 females to average  $2750 while Jeremy Cruikshank purchased 5 unjoined heifers for a $1800 average.

BEEF WEEK OPEN DAY - FRIDAY, 19TH MARCH.
Rosedale is again participating in Central West Beef Week, this Friday March 19 at the Carcoar Livestock Exchange (CTLX), from 9.00am.  On display will be the Champion Pen of 3 bulls, Rosedale Drover (P), Rosedale Dealer (P) and Rosedale Darwin (P) fresh from their big win at the Beef Spectacular last week and a cross section of our sale cattle which will be offered at our Annual Sale, Thursday, May 20.

This will be a good oportunity to preview our Sale offering, to speak to us about your bull/breeding requirements and to see Drover (Lot 5), Dealer (lot 7) and Darwin (P), the Champs, before their next outing, the Sydney Royal.  CTLX is very close to Rosedale, so we can organise you to see more at home if you would like.

 SHOW TIME!
Rosedale's showing season began with great succes on the team's first outing, The Blayney Royal!  Rosedale Egan(P) by new sire Ashwood Park Bacardi(P), (Lot 66 in our Sale) won his class and was awarded Grand Champion Charolais Bull and Interbreed Champion. Rosedale Zig U142(P), won the Junior and Grand Champion Charolais Female. Rosedale also won the Interbred Breeders' Group.

Our next stop was the Beef Spectacular, where we won the hotly contested All Breeds Pen of 3 Bulls competition.  The pen, Rosedale Drover (P), Rosedale Dealer (P) and Rosedale Darwin (P), won their class from 20 entries then were awarded Champion Pen by Judge Jim Gunn of Sevenbardot Poll Herefords, and made the comment " 3 outstanding bulls, hard to fault.  Bulls I would be happy to use in my own herd".  This pen also took out the People's Choice award.  Rosedale Drover (P) and Rosesdale Dealer (P) are catalogued as Lot 5 and 7, respectively, in our sale.
Rosedale took 4 led bulls and each won a ribbon - 1st, 2nd 3rd and a 4th.
Rosedale Dinga(P) continued in his winning way to be awarded Senior and Grand Champion Charolais bull and was made Reserve Champion Interbreed Bull.
Sydney Royal is next, leading up to our Sale.  James has prepared a team of 10, so please visit and meet with us in the cattle stalls if you are going to the Show.   Judging day is Sunday, 11th April, commencing at 10.30am.  The Judge will be Brett Fisher of Silverstream Charolais Stud, N.Z.

THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Rosedale Dinga (P) had a big day out at the recently held Charolais Feature Show at Guyra.  From a showing of over 90 charolais entries Rosedale Dinga (P) won Senior and Grand Champion Bull, Supreme Charolais Exhibit and the Interbreed Supreme Beef Exhibit.
Rosedale Dinga (P) was purchased by the Jackson and Goodview Charolais Studs, both of Guyra, in partnership at last year's Rosedale Annual Sale - a yearling bull, less than 12 months of age.
Dinga's sire, Paringa Novotel (P), is proving to be a standout "herd improver", doing a great job here in the Rosedale herd.  He is also a 3/4 brother to Rosedale Donatello (P), the Junior and Grand Champion Charolais bull and member of the winning Hordern Trophy Champions at last years Sydney Royal - all before his first birthday!.
Our congratulations to the Jackson and Goodview Studs.
